“Love of Dokdo Campaign”
notice 2005/03/09 01:25KoreanBlog's Prize-Winning Competition for March 2005
“Love of Dokdo Campaign”
■ Details
Have you ever heard of Dokdo Island? Dokdo Island is a small, but beautiful island of the Republic of Korea off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula. As part of the territory of the country since 512 A.D., the island has been the subject of unchanged affection and attention of the Korean people.
However, Japan has been making a far-fetched argument since 1905 when Korea fell under its colonial rule that the island constitutes its territory. Until the 19th century, Japan itself acknowledged that the island belonged to Korea as confirmed by numerous maps, official documents and records in Japan.
When the Allied Powers returned the territories of the imperialist Japan’s neighboring countries, which it had invaded and occupied, to their original owners after the end of World War II, it was confirmed again that Dokdo Island evidently constituted a part of Korea’s territory, not subject to the sovereign rights of Japan. The United Nations has also recognized Dokdo Island as Korean territory in the ‘Korea Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ).’
KoreanBlog is implementing a project to give publicity to Dokdo Island, a precious land of Korea around the whole world. KoreanBlog plans to collect and make available ‘materials pertinent to the Republic of Korea’s territorial rights to Dokdo Island’ provided by many netizens. It is because historical facts and relevant records are very important in clarifying which country has the jurisdiction over a certain territory.
Readers of this notice are invited to participate in the ‘Love of Dokdo Compaign.’ Please, provide KoreanBlog with your own ideas on Dokdo Island as well as other objective materials evidencing that ‘Dokdo is a part of the territory of the Republic of Korea’ (maps, images, records and so forth). You may send KoreanBlog any distorted and misleading materials related to the island (maps, records, articles, homepage addresses, etc.) indicating that the island belongs to Japan or citing it as “Takeshima.”
By collecting valuable materials that you provide, KoreanBlog will inform the whole world of the fact that Dokdo Island is a part of the territory of the Republic of Korea, not Japan as well as the "love of Dokdo" by netizens.
